Material you cannot touch
Luwte is a fictional label with twelve designs: pendants, table lamps, vases and objects in small runs. Anyone buying pieces like these online cannot feel how paper diffuses light or how heavy stone is. Product photography and copy have to do that work.
The design question: how can a small online shop show material, and how can a choice of material or size become visible immediately rather than remain a line in a dropdown menu? That is what the design aims to address. Nothing has been sold and nothing measured.

The collection: filters for type and material on the left, twelve designs on the right, with a count and sorting above.
De keuzes
Calm shopping, attention to material
01 · Newsreader for names, a grotesk for controls
Product names, headings and prices use Newsreader, a serif with optical sizes: large, light and sharp; small, calm and clear. Italics carry the material words paper, clay and stone. Buttons, filters and body copy use Hanken Grotesk, which does not compete with it.
02 · Chalk, sand and one clay accent
The page sits on a warm off-white with a fine paper grain. Clay is the only accent colour, used in headings and the focus outline. The product photographs come from different shoots; a consistent card background and order keep them together.
03 · Shareable filters
The collection filters by type and material. The count updates and the selection sits in the address bar, so a filtered list can be shared. On hover or keyboard focus, a product card reveals a detail crop from the same photograph; on touch, the Detail button does this.
04 · The basket as a drawer
Add to basket opens a drawer over the page, showing the image and variant you selected. Focus moves into the drawer, Esc closes it and focus returns to the button. Checkout leads to a demonstration message: nothing is ordered.
Wat de interactie laat zien
Choosing material changes the image
For Groeve, you choose between white marble and marble with basalt. After selecting an option, the main image, thumbnails, price and address bar all update, so you can see what you are buying and share the choice.
The two photographs come from one shoot, with the same pieces and lighting. This makes the difference read as a choice rather than another product. The basket then shows that exact variant, with that image.

Groeve after selecting Marble with basalt: the option, price and photo have all changed.
Measured result: none
Luwte does not exist. The concept has been developed as clickable pages in HTML, CSS and JavaScript and is not online. Nothing is sold; checkout shows a demonstration message. No visitors or orders have been counted, so there is no measured result here. Only Groeve has a genuine material variant with its own image; for the lamps, the choice is a size.
Image sources: product photography from Unsplash; detail images are crops from the same photograph. Product names and prices are fictional.
